چکیده

The experimental trial was conducted at Sorghum Research Centre, Marathwada Agricultural University, Parbhani during kharif 2021 in randomized design with 3 replications. Eighteen parental (B & R) lines were evaluated to study genetic diversities and variability for fifteen yield contributing characters. Among all the eighteen genotypes of significant differences observed its traits except total chlorophyll content. Coefficient variance phenotypic level showed higher values than genotypic among traits. like stability index (G=23.035, P=23.714), leaf area (G=21.064, P=21.673), 1000 grain weight (G=28.845, P=29.929), fodder (G=21.858, P=22.458), number per panicle (G=29.564, P=30.158), dry (G=29.044, P=29.903) high both level. Traits plant height (H=90, GAM=21.041), (H=86, GAM=29.074), (H=94, GAM=23.664), GAM=42.17), GAM=46.093), (H=96, GAM=59.703), GAM=43.823),1000 (H=92, GAM=52.270) harvest (H=84, GAM=32.321) recorded heritability advancement. Genotype AKR 504, NR 39-15, KR 218, 219, PMS 100B, AKMS 90 B INDORE 12 better performance characters thus, should be used development hybrids inbreds breeding programmes by DUS (Distinctness, Uniformity Stability) testing.

Correlation studies for shootfly resistance traits in sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench)

A field experiment was conducted to study the relation of different plant characters and shoot fly resistance in sorghum. Leaf glossiness showed high positive correlation with shootfly oviposition and dead hearts. The oviposition percentage on 14 and 21 days after seedling emergence exhibited significant positive correlation with dead hearts. Leaf trichome density on adaxial and abaxial leaf su...

Heterosis and Combining Ability Studies in Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) Over the Environments

In the field of plant breeding, the most important breakthrough has been considered as ‘heterosis’. Exploitation of heterosis on commercial scale and the systematic varietal improvement through hybridization are the main tools to increase the sorghum production. The success in the development of superior hybrids and/or varieties depends on the choice of parents for hybridization and amount and ...

Inheritance of Resistance to Sorghum Shoot Fly, Atherigona soccata in Sorghum, Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench

Sorghum production is affected by a wide array of biotic constraints, of which sorghum shoot fly, Atherigona soccata is the most important pest, which severely damages the sorghum crop during the seedling stage. Host plant resistance is one of the major components to control sorghum shoot fly, A. soccata. To understand the nature of gene action for inheritance of shoot fly resistance, we evalua...

Genotypic variation in sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] exotic germplasm collections for drought and disease tolerance

Sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] grain yield is severely affected by abiotic and biotic stresses during post-flowering stages, which has been aggravated by climate change. New parental lines having genes for various biotic and abiotic stress tolerances have the potential to mitigate this negative effect. Field studies were conducted under irrigated and dryland conditions with 128 exotic ge...

Exploitation of heterosis using diverse parental lines in Rabi Sorghum

Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) is one of the major crops for grain and fodder, widely grown in India under rain fed conditions. Rabi sorghum is grown in an area of 5.5 million hectares mainly in the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh with average productivity of 854 kg/ha. Despite low productivity, Rabi sorghum continues to be an important component of dry land economy i...
